Summerball Opening Day

Saturday, June 1, 2024
Location: Harlem High School, 1 Huskie Cir, Machesney Park, IL 61115
Line up for parade starts at 8:15am

Parade starts promptly at 9:00am (parents are encouraged to drop off their children with their coach and take a seat on the bleachers on the football field). Players will line up starting at the garage (Youngest to oldest league). Team numbers will be written on the blacktop. Your coach will tell you what your team number. Please have children at Harlem no later than 8:30. The earlier, the better. Teams will be announced as they parade on the track.

Pictures

Pictures will be taken on opening day on diamond 14. Please make sure your whole team is together and arrives 15 minutes before your scheduled time. Picture times are posted on the website. Coaches will get picture packets to give to parents. To make lines go faster, please try to have your packet filled out ahead of time.

Picture schedule found here.

Uniforms

We know everyone is excited for their uniforms, we are too! Once uniforms arrive, we will call the coaches to come pick them up. Uniforms will be given out according to the size that was ordered, not by number choice.

Rain out date

If the weather does not cooperate and we have to cancel, the rain makeup date for Opening Day will be Sunday, June 2 and there will be no parade on Sunday, only games and pictures. The winning raffle tickets will still be drawn on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Summerball Game Schedules can be found by clicking here.

Umpires Needed

We still need umpires. If you are 15ys & older and interested in umpiring, contact Joe at 815-633-5817. We will train you.

Opening Day Parking

For safety reasons we ask that you don’t park along the side of Forest Hills Rd or on the grass in the parking lots. We have plenty of parking on Torque Rd. If your child’s game is on Diamond 13,14 & 15 it is better to park at Harem High school and walk up the path to the complex.

Raffle Tickets

Don’t forget to pick up your raffle tickets and turn them in by May 31, 2024- 3PM. Winners will be drawn on opening day.

What happens if the weather is bad?

HCC has a calling tree that will notify the Head Coaches when the games are cancelled. Coaches will then notify their players. You can also check our Face Book page (Harlem Community Center) for weather updates. At the Sports Complex there is a flag pole located in front of the concession stand. Flag colors mean the following: Red flag-games cancelled, Yellow flag- delayed (stay in car until a determination is made), Green flag- games are on.

To avoid break ins, please lock your car doors while attending games.

No Smoking/Vaping Policy

Wentland Sports Complex in partnership with the Rockford Park District

The Rockford Park District Board approved updates to the Rockford Park District Code of Ordinances. Section 9.18 Clean Air Ordinance, which states that smoking in public places is prohibited. The resolution includes any “lighted or vaporized substance in any manner or form,” including cigars, cigarettes, pipes, and e-cigarettes.

It is our priority to provide residents with diverse, well‐supported and safe recreational activities for their health, well‐being and entertainment. Updating this ordinance has clear health benefits, will reduce litter in our parks, and will help protect our patrons, particularly youth, from exposure to second-hand smoke. Fines have also been adjusted, stating that any person or entity that violates Section 9.18 shall be liable to punishment by a fine:

  1. For a first offense in any 12-month period, the fine for violation of this Section 9.18 shall be $125.00.
  2. For a second offense, within one year of the date of conviction for a prior violation hereof, the fine for violation of this Section 9.18 shall be $250.00.
  3. For each succeeding violation within one year from the date of such first conviction, the fine for violation of this Section 9.18 shall be $500.00
